Abstract
ABSTRACT:
This study aimed to examine the impact of first-year students’ participation in scouting activities at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Mesopotamia, on enhancing their sense of institutional belonging. The researchers employed a one-group experimental design (pre–post test), which was deemed appropriate for the nature of the research. The study population consisted of 459 first-year students enrolled in the academic year 2024/2025. A random sample of) 15(students was selected as the main research sample, in addition to )12(students who were chosen as a pilot group from within and outside the main population. The primary instrument used was an institutional belonging scale developed by the three researchers. The findings revealed a noticeable improvement in students’ institutional belonging in the post-test compared to the pre-test, following their participation in the scouting activities. Based on these results, the researchers recommended encouraging greater student involvement in scouting programs due to their positive role in character development and capacity building. They also emphasized the importance of providing adequate material and human resources to support scouting activities within educational institutions.
